- Dr. Tom W. Chen is an attending physician in the Department of Oncology at National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH), Taipei, Taiwan.
- He completed internal medicine training followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at NTUH.
- He later joined the Drug Development Program (DDP) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada, as a clinical fellow, focusing on early-phase clinical trials underthe mentorship of Dr. Lillian Siu and Dr. Phil Bedard.
- Upon returning to NTUH, he played a key role in establishing a multidisciplinary sarcoma team.
- He is actively involved in global sarcoma clinical trials as well as investigator-initiated studies in soft tissue sarcoma.
- He serves as Principal Investigator (PI) of the LEADER study, evaluating the combination of lenvatinib and eribulin in leiomyosarcoma and liposarcoma; the study was selectedfor oral presentation at the ASCO 2020 Virtual Meeting.
- He has collaborated with Dr. Wolf Fridman and Dr. Catherine Sautès-Fridman at the Cordeliers Research Center in Paris to study the immune microenvironment of soft tissuesarcoma. Their work highlighting the role of B cells and tertiary lymphoid structures was published in Nature.
- He actively participates in international sarcoma groups, including the Asia Sarcoma Consortium and the World Sarcoma Network.
- He served as Sarcoma Scientific Chair at ESMO Asia 2019 and ESMO 2022.
